Becoming Family

Family matters at The Orchard, so we want you to understand what it means to be a member. Membership at The Orchard is a process that includes the Exploring Membership class, where you will explore what we believe, how we function, and what membership means. You will have the opportunity to meet our pastors and staff, as well as ask any questions you may have about The Orchard.

Being family at The Orchard means being known and belonging. The elders strive to know and shepherd members well, so after attending Exploring Membership, complete a Membership Application and schedule a Pastoral Care Meeting to officially join The Orchard family.

What is Church Membership?

Church membership is a formal relationship between a church and Christian characterized by the church’s affirmation and oversight of a Christian’s discipleship and the Christian’s submission to living out his or her discipleship in the care of the church (Leeman 2012).

  • Membership formally affirms your profession of faith and baptism as credible at The Orchard Church.
  • The Orchard Church takes responsibility for the watch care of your soul (Heb. 13:17) and gives oversight to your discipleship.
  • The individual formally submits his or her discipleship to the service and authority to this body of leaders.

Why is Church Membership Important?

  • The church is its members.
  • It’s how you represent Jesus.
  • It’s a way to serve other Christians.
  • It gives structure to your Christian life.
