Dave Poley

Dave was born and grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was one of six children in a loving family, with an inspiring and influential father, mother and a grandfather who was a devoted Methodist Minister. He studied Natural Science, Economics, and Business at Oregon State University, where his two passions were intercollegiate racing on a nationally ranked varsity crew/rowing team, and through this, being introduced to and becoming active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This passion continued many years post college via Boathouse Row on the Schuylkill River, Philadelphia, leading to Gold Medals in the US Nationals. It is there and then that he met and married his lovely bride Jill, then to be blessed with three wonderful children: Todd (w/Christin, at Orchard), Brooke (w/Daniel, in Atlanta) and Brandon (in Birmingham). Additionally, in recent years Jill and Dave have been blessed with five grandchildren, and from the family’s beginning the continual companionship of numerous golden retrievers & a black lab.

There is not one among our family who would not point to the roots of The Orchard Church and Pastor Sam over our past two decades here in Memphis as having the greatest impact on our lives, in our faith and in our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ for which we are all so grateful. Those of us living here in Memphis are thankful to be able to serve and worship at The Orchard Church. Dave has enjoyed serving as one of our earliest Deacons, now as an Elder, as well as leading Community Groups, Men’s Ministry, Ross Elementary, and supporting (along with Jill) Orchard Kids.

Dave has enjoyed a professional career and leadership role in the Medical Industry with Johnson & Johnson, Synthes and now Medtronic, the latter here in Memphis for the past twenty years. And although we are still big Philadelphia Eagles fans (now s. b. champions), all of us have come to deeply appreciate and love the finer traditions of southern living: hospitality, kind hearts, church family, SEC football, early morning running and year-round golf.
