Day 10 - Chris Greenwood
John 5 leads us to a conversation between Jesus and the religious leaders of that day. Jesus has just performed a miracle on the Sabbath. A man who had been lame for 38 years can now walk. This miracle causes an uproar among the leaders and is driven by three issues—the healing on the Sabbath, the rising popularity of Jesus, and ultimately the claims of Jesus. In our eyes, a miracle occurred, but to the leaders, an enemy was created.
It is safe to assume that religious leaders would be significantly more disciplined in their practices than the average believer. Yet, at this moment, they are blind to the Savior before them. While they see all the details, they miss the Savior. If these people had devoted their time and energy to serving God but still fell short, how easily can our lives tell the same story? It is easy to be distracted in doing and miss sitting at the feet of Jesus. We can get caught up in building our own kingdom and miss how God is building his kingdom.
I encourage you today to take time to sit before Jesus. Scripture continuously points out that His creation reflects and magnifies the Lord. Today, slow down and enjoy his presence in all you do. His handiwork is in everyone and everything around us. Ask yourself, “Have I been so focused on what I am doing that I am missing what God is doing around me?” Henry Blackaby says, "Watch to see where God is working and join him in his work." Where is God working? How can you take part in it?
