Day 20 - Troy Patterson

Dec 16, 2022    Troy Patterson

We don’t “sorta” (sort of) do anything. In baseball, when you “sorta” swing, the result isn’t a home run; it's a strike. I tell our 4th and 5th-grade boys in kids ministry that the word of God demands a response. Disobeying God is a response. Applying God’s word in obedience is a response. Apathy or doing nothing is a response. In John 3:36, we see two possibilities: genuine faith or defiant disobedience. Anything short of believing in Jesus’ perfect life, death, resurrection, and ascension and choosing Him as the Lord of your life is rejecting King Jesus, the only one who can save us from the wrath of God.

How sweet are the words in 2 Corinthians 5:21, “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” And in Romans 5:9, “Since therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.”

God’s just, righteous, holy, and terrible wrath is a real consequence of our sin. However, as a believer in the Son, I can’t read or hear the words "wrath of God" without the comforting lyrics of “In Christ Alone” ringing in my ear:

“Till on that cross as Jesus died, 'the wrath of God' was satisfied. For every sin on him was laid. Here in the death of Christ, I live.”

Amen!
