Day 24 - David Schmidt

Dec 20, 2022    David Schmidt

Demonstrable internal transversion (D.I.T. for short) is what scientists say are the bodily manifestations of a mental conviction. D.I.T. is what we see in today's verse with the newly healed blind man of John 9. Blind for all his life, this man is listening to someone talk with authority. Without soliciting or coercion, the stranger puts mud on his eyes and gives him specific instructions. He goes to the pool and washes.

He was once blind, but now he sees. The once-blind man starts to process internally. "This man owed me nothing, yet he gave me everything." This is where D.I.T. forms into something "demonstrable." The gratefulness in his heart wants to be shown through an "outward expression" to this miracle worker. The "Son of Man" soon finds him when the man is booted from the temple. Jesus asks him if he would believe if he could meet this "Man." With a "true" belief, the man's inward gratefulness moves "outward" in D.I.T fashion. And what was that "outward demonstrable expression"?

Worship.

"Lord, I believe," and he worshipped him.

BTW I made up the term Demonstrable Internal Transversion. But isn't it true?

Belief happens internally. This Advent season, remember that "true" belief manifests itself into something "demonstrable" or able to be seen. The formerly blind man's grateful, believing heart led him to immediate worship. The inside made its way to the outside.
